Banned former Federation Internationale de Football Association president Sepp Blatter to attend World Cup in Russia

Banned former Federation Internationale de Football Association president Sepp Blatter to attend World Cup in Russia

The Opening Ceremony will be produced by Russia's Channel One and the "creative concept" will be developed by Felix Mikhailov, who has directed other World Cup events including the preliminary and main draw.

As well as the relative strength of both teams involved, less importance will be given to friendly games when determining the rankings, while more will be given to the major tournaments.

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) said this year's opening ceremony will have a "slightly different format", focusing on "musical acts and will take place much closer to kick-off". Once the Opening Ceremony concludes, Russian Federation and Saudi Arabia will kick off the tournament for real.

Naturally, the Luzhniki Stadium was where the majority of preparations were being finalised ahead Russia's opening group game against Saudi Arabia.

Smith will be performing the World Cup's anthem alongside Kosovan singer Era Istrefi and Nicky Jam.

The opening ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m. local time (10:30 a.m. ET), just 30 minutes before Russian Federation and Saudi Arabia spar off to officially commence this year's World Cup.

Another date to remember is June 28, when England take on Belgium in their final Group G encounter.

Guess who will be attending the Fifa World Cup as a personal guest of Vladimir Putin?

He was suspended in December 2015 for eight years, later reduced to six, after an investigation carried out by FIFA's ethics committee. As they have never made it past the round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup, they will be desperate to change their fortunes and give their fans something to cheer about. Holders Germany, Brazil and Spain are among the favourites to lift the World Cup come July 15.
