Mo Salah provides boost for Egyptians ahead of their World Cup opener

Mo Salah provides boost for Egyptians ahead of their World Cup opener

Mohamed Salah looks to be on course to make his return for Egypt in time for the beginning of the World Cup.

Despite Salah's incredible season, his campaign on a sour note when he was forced off with injury in Liverpool's Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid last month in Kiev.

The footage, courtesy of Egyptian newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm , comes at a time when the signs had been looking hugely encouraging that Salah would be ready for the World Cup - and that he could even be in the starting XI for their first Group A game.

"There's a good degree of progress but no definitive decision on whether he takes part, as we are following his case day by day", he told reporters.

He took part in the team training session on Wednesday but did not engage in any pieces of training that involves the ball.

For the team itself, the Salah-Kadyrov handshake was far less important than whether their star will recover from a shoulder injury to feature in Egypt's opening match against Uruguay on Friday in Ekaterinburg. "However, I can not confirm today that he will play in the first match", Lehita said of the 25-year-old, who scored 44 goals for Liverpool last season.

Egypt, who are in Group A along with hosts Russia, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay, faced the South Americans Uruguay on Friday, June 15, before taking on Russia on June 19 and Saudi Arabia on June 25. "All I can say is that we hope he will play in this match".

The winger has declared himself fit to play in the World Cup in Russian Federation this summer after injuring his shoulder in the Champions League final against Real.

"I'm with Luis (Suarez), I like the best players to play, I train with the best and I want the best players to play", said Muslera.

Salah is regarded as a contender for the Ballon d'Or, alongside Argentina's Lionel Messi, Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar of Brazil.
