Police sergeant rescues child from busy roadway

Police sergeant rescues child from busy roadway

Cars continue to drive by in the left lane as the scene unfolds.

"I have twin boys, and there's not a day that goes by where something bad happens, you always think of your own kids", Mannino said.

The sergeant pulled over and parked his squad vehicle to block traffic in the lane.

The rescue was all caught on camera, showing the officer run after the child and tell him he's okay.

At one point, a large truck can be seen passing within a few feet of the child at a high rate of speed. It was a heart-stopping moment when Sergeant Anthony Mannino, 24, spotted the young boy wandering onto Route 59, just inches away from speeding traffic.

As a result of his role in the rescue, Mannino received the Naperville Police Department's Life Saving Award last week, according to the post. No one was hurt in the incident.

No one was hurt, which the police department attributes to Mannino's "observation while on patrol and quick reaction, placing his squad vehicle and himself between the child and traffic".
