U.S. F-15C fighter jet crashes off Japan's Okinawa

U.S. F-15C fighter jet crashes off Japan's Okinawa

The Japanese Air Self-Defense Force helicopter rescued the sole pilot, the news daily reported.

Medics rushed the pilot to a United States naval hospital by helicopter with a broken leg, but his injuries are thought to be "non life-threatening". The pilot is not in a life-threatening condition.

In March, Japanese officials called on the USA military to provide information after an antenna fell from an Okinawa-based F-15 on February 27.

In a statement Monday, Kadena Airbase said the aircraft crashed early Monday morning and the pilot was sent to a USA naval hospital.

"Huge thank you to the Japan Air Self-Defense Force search and rescue team out of Naha Air Base this morning".

Onodera said the Japanese government "requested [the USA investigators] share information with us and that they take firm safety measures to prevent a repeat". "Accidents involving USA military aircraft are occurring repeatedly". About half of the 50,000 American troops in Japan are stationed on the southern island.

A USA military fighter jet has crashed into the sea off Japan's southern prefecture of Okinawa.

"I will ask for detailed reports about why it happened", he added.

In December 2017, two alleged incidents of parts falling from helicopters onto civilian territory occurred.

Earlier it was reported that in the area of the island of Okinawa fell into the sea the American fighter F-15.

Significant maintenance issues regarding F-15s have been on the radar in the U.S., forcing a portion of the Air National Guard's fleet to be grounded in March.

The Okinawa government asked the USA military to suspend F-15 flights until they are confirmed safe, while the prefectural government and local towns hosting the base are set to lodge protests against the U.S. military.
