Artist without arms accused of stabbing tourist with scissors

The Miami Herald reports that Crenshaw is a popular fixture in the area, known for painting on canvases along a trendy spot in South Beach.

According to Miami Beach Police Department Jonathan Crenshaw, who is a native of Florida, stabbed 22-year-old Cesar Coronado twice with the scissors before running away from the crime scene. Crenshaw then got up and used the scissors in self defense and quickly walked off, police said.

A homeless South Florida street artist with no arms has been charged with stabbing a Chicago tourist.

A friend of Coronado's, however, said the two asked Crenshaw for directions when he suddenly stabbed Coronado in the arm.

The publication has profiled Crenshaw in the past and found he has had multiple run-ins with police and other officials, including violent crime charges.

He told officers he was lying on the ground when the victim came up to him and punched him in the head. Paramedics took him to an area hospital for treatment.

Crenshaw has been charged with aggravated battery.

Barrientos described the attacker to police as a homeless, armless man. Officers found Crenshaw a short distance away and arrested him.

The New Times reports that Crenshaw's most recent conviction was in 2014, when he was sentenced to 180 days in jail for felony battery on a police officer. He has a court date set for July 18.
