Do you approve of Trump's Supreme Court pick?

Do you approve of Trump's Supreme Court pick?

Democrats face an uphill fight against Kavanaugh: He is impeccably credentialed, affable, well liked and well connected.

"Judge Kavanaugh has written some troubling things about environmental protections, consumer protections, commonsense gun safety laws - all of which should be carefully examined by this Senate and by the American people", Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said.

This is all conjecture, of course.

"Obviously the more there is, the more opportunities there are to highlight why he's problematic", one senior Democratic aide said, adding that given it's a lifetime appointment, Democrats should have access to everything that exists.

"I think you're going to find that not only is this a fine, great man, and a good family man and a very intelligent judge, but he can do a very good job on the court, and that's all we can ask for", Hatch said. He came out in the hours before Trump even made the selection and said you know what? "Is there nothing more important to Yale Law School than its proximity to power and prestige?" And during that period of time, I just announced, I'll be hearing from West Virginians and their opinion.

There is a better way to do this, I think. They're my boss. And we want to hear from them, too, during this process.

I looks to me like Manchin will do so unless something is discovered that causes one or two Republican Senators to defect.

While Kavanaugh, 53, was framed as the more "establishment" conservative pick of the other candidates, various Republicans had phoned Trump last week to voice their objections over his potential nomination, including about a 2011 opinion where he declined to rule the Obamacare health insurance mandate as unconstitutional. Donnelly has not, to my knowledge, praised the nominee the way Sen.

I do. That's not to say it won't be hard.

The senator did not offer specifics but said they did discuss Kavanaugh's views on legal precedent. Standing alone, that statement is neutral.

"Let's put it this way: There were some who have been on the list that I would have had a very, very hard time supporting, just based on what was already publicly known about them", Murkowski told Politico. Senators quickly confirmed his nominee, Neil Gorsuch.

Republicans hope to have Kavanaugh confirmed by the start of the court's session in October.

On Wednesday, the former press secretary for Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign told ABC's Powerhouse Politics podcast hosts Jonathan Karl and Rick Klein that "there's more than a million pages of documents" from Kavanaugh's time working under President George W. Bush. But Kavanaugh is, I believe, a careful and judicious guy and probably has been all along. Kavanaugh, who graduated from Yale Law School in 1990, worked as a clerk for Kennedy.
