Indian Women's Cricket Coach Tushar Arothe Quits Over 'Training Methods'

Indian Women's Cricket Coach Tushar Arothe Quits Over 'Training Methods'

Immediately, reports of alleged discord between Arothe and some of the high-profile players surfaced.

During his heydays, Arothe played as an attacking all-rounder in first-class for Baroda cricket team.

India Women's Cricket Team Coach Tushar Arothe has stepped down from the role citing personal reasons, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said on Tuesday.

Indian players react after losing the ICC Women's World Cup cricket final between England and India at Lord's cricket ground in London on July 23, 2017.

Arothe replaced Purnima Rao past year. "We will initiate the process and BCCI will appoint a suitable replacement and befitting coach for the Indian women's cricket team", he added.

India's breakout run in the tournament, where they finished runners-up, however, earned him a two-year extension. Even though neither the players nor Arothe had accepted or refuted the claims openly, the two parties are believed to have met BCCI officials separately with their grievances. He was also tasked with the responsibility, along with George, to scout players for the India A sides that played against Australia and England in Mumbai in March.

The team also had a dismal Twenty20 tri-nation tournament against England and Australia in March and then lost a one-day global series against Australia. The Asia Cup loss is understood to have been the tipping point.

However, a senior BCCI official told Press Trust of India (PTI) that Arothe was forced to resign after some senior players, with reasonable influence, wanted his immediate ouster.

According to another report filed by News18, it was Arothe's training methods which had come under question which led to the beginning of the fallout in the first place. This, more so, in the context of the team's upcoming tour of Sri Lanka in September before they head to the West Indies for the World T20.
