Nawaz Sharif will be arrested once he lands in Lahore, warns minister

Pakistan's embattled former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam are set to arrive in Lahore on Friday to face arrest in a corruption case, amid high security and a massive crackdown on his party activists. But I am doing this for people of Pakistan, sacrificing for generations to come.

Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) party has said it will mobilise supporters to greet his plane, but government officials have said he will be arrested as soon as he lands.

On the other hand, the caretaker government has announced that the father-daughter duo will be arrested from the airport once they land.

Earlier Maryam tweeted that her mother Begum Kulsoom Nawaz had opened her eyes for a few seconds on Thursday for the first time in weeks, she also requested her followers to pray for her mother's well-being.

Hussain Nawaz was talking to media about her mother's current condition, he said, "After exactly one month, she [my mother] has opened her eyes".

Before leaving for Pakistan from London, Maryam, said: "It is the most hard decision of our lives because my mother is on the ventilator and we don't know what happens next, their is no pain like that of leaving your mother behind in such situation but there's a national duty and we must make this important journey". [Begum Nawaz] is still not conscious and on ventilator.

Meanwhile in Pakistan, things don't look good for the beleaguered PML-N.

The Punjab police have surrounded the house of PML-N leader and former minister Balighur Rehman in Bahawalpur.

Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and fined eight million pounds in the Avenfield Reference case by an accountability court, which awarded seven years jail to Maryam besides a fine of two million pounds.

Late on Wednesday night, police stormed workers" homes and took them into custody for 30 days to thwart the PML-N's "welcome' procession. He has urged upon all party workers to join the rally.

Speaking on the bad state of Pakistan's economy, he said our economy is on the verge of decline, the stock exchange is going down, our reserves can support only one month's import now, our investors went back to London and Dubai wondering what would happen on 25 July in Pakistan.

Further, the PML-N president said the verdict in the Avenfield reference was "unjust".
