Transfer Latest: Chelsea Still Chasing Manager Maurizio Sarri

Transfer Latest: Chelsea Still Chasing Manager Maurizio Sarri

Fabregas mainly came off the bench for Chelsea as Conte claimed the Premier League title during his first season at the helm in 2016/17, but he enjoyed a more prominent role last term, starting 25 times in total in the top-flight.

Chelsea are close to completing a €65 million (£57.5m) combined deal to appoint Maurizio Sarri as their new head coach and sign Italy worldwide midfielder Jorginho, Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis said.

Finally it seems that Sarri will be the new man, after all he's already been replaced in Naples by Carlo Ancelotti, and Conte, according to reports is now out on his arse.

Conte returned to Cobham to lead Chelsea's preseason training on Monday as uncertainty about his future continued to swirl.

"It has to be said that Conte has done an impressive job at Chelsea", Zola told Calciomercato. "Jorginho would go to Chelsea regardless of Sarri".

Since Chelsea failed to meet Sarri's release clause by the deadline, De Laurentiis is now holding out for a reported €8m (£7m) in compensation. Sarri is employed by a club who has no use for him.

Chelsea hoped that another club might attempt to buy Conte out of the final year of his Stamford Bridge contract as he was unwilling to resign, but Paris Saint-Germain's appointment of Thomas Tuchel and Real Madrid's choice of Julen Lopetegui eliminated the possibility.

Italian outlet CalcioNapoli24 have footage of Jorginho at an airport on his way to London to complete his move to Stamford Bridge and Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has now confirmed the midfielder has opted to join Chelsea over City.

"My agreement with (Chelsea owner Roman) Abramovich (on Jorginho) is irrespective of whether or not Sarri ends up taking charge of the Blues".

After Christmas they suffered back-to-back league defeats twice - first by Bournemouth and Watford, and then against Manchester City and Manchester United - and a run of four-straight wins late in the campaign could not secure a top-four finish.

Jorginho's arrival will belatedly kickstart the club's summer transfer business, with Daniele Rugani and Aleksandr Golovin to follow from Juventus and CSKA Moscow respectively.
