White House defends decision to bar reporter from press event

White House defends decision to bar reporter from press event

Banned, blocked, disinvited or unwelcomed, the result was that Collins was unable to attend a news conference with Trump and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. In September 2016, he recorded a conversation between himself and the President in which they discussed a payment to silence a former playmate named Karen McDougal from speaking about her relationship with Trump.

In an interview on her network, she said they told her the questions about Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen were "inappropriate for that venue" and she would be "blocked" from attending a later event in the Rose Garden.

"Just because the White House is uncomfortable with a question regarding the news of the day doesn't mean the question isn't relevant and shouldn't be asked", said CNN in a statement".

Kaitlan Collins: "Mr. President, are you anxious about what Michael Cohen is going to say to prosecutors?" Collins was working as the press pool reporter on Wednesday and asking several questions as the press are ushered out of the room is common for the network reporter representing the pool.

The White House said it found Collins' questions inappropriate and that she had refused to leave when asked. He replayed comments from White House counselor Kellyanne Conway saying that the press needed to be more civil at the White House and contrasted that comment with Trump's many attacks on the media.

She repeated the question after Trump declined to answer.

"As a member of the White House press pool, Fox stands firmly with CNN on this issue of access", Baier said on "Special Report", where he also read from CNN's statement on the matter.

WH Bans CNN Reporter For Asking Trump About Putin

CNN condemned the ban as "retaliatory" and "not indicative of an open and free press".

The White House complained about questions she shouted to Trump earlier about Russian Federation and Michael Cohen.

"As an aside, when the president attacks journalists, we question his motivation and try to discover the underlying reason", he said.

The president gets the publicity he wants - footage, say, of his hand-shake with another head of state or signing key legislation into law. The president sometimes takes questions during the sessions.

But unfortunately for all the would-be spooks and speculators online, the status over the ball at the White House is alert, but definitely not alarmed.

Shine, who was ousted as co-president of Fox News past year over his handling of sexual harassment allegations, joined the White House as deputy chief of staff for communications earlier this month.

White House deputy chief of staff for communications Bill Shine challenged reporters on Thursday about whether the administration had ever used the word "ban".
