YouTube dark mode comes to Android at long last

YouTube dark mode comes to Android at long last

YouTube has finally given Android users a "dark mode" option, four months after the same feature rolled out on iOS devices.

The feature has been steadily introduced as a way of making the platform easier on the eye - particularly during viewing sessions in low light.

Last year, Google's YouTube granted a huge wish of its viewers to bring a dark UI mode.

If you do not want to make use of the new feature, there is an option to turn it off and remove the prompt.

Said spotting was done by 9to5Google, with the theme seemingly being prioritised for phones and tablets sporting the Google-powered Android (which owns YouTube). Not only that, but the black theme of the application under the dark mode setting will save battery as well. As expected, the white background switches to black all through the YouTube app as soon as it is enabled.

According to Tech Crunch, the dark theme on YouTube for Android is in the early phases of a gradual roll out.

The dark theme that we all knew is coming to the Android, and iOS versions of the YouTube app is finally here. As on iOS and the web, the feature changes the main interface background to a dark gray with white text on top.

Google, however, didn't go to town trumpeting the rolling out of the new feature. Still, it's nice to see some variation within the app, especially since it hasn't received a design update for a long time. It's great for offering a more cinematic user experience, as well as cutting down the glare from light reflection on the screen.
