Tim Allen Speaks Out on Roseanne Firing: 'Who Makes Up These Rules?'

Tim Allen Speaks Out on Roseanne Firing: 'Who Makes Up These Rules?'

Allen, a fellow conservative comedian, was asked during FOX's TCA panel Thursday whether he believed ABC made the right decision in cancelling "Roseanne", after Barr's racist tweet in which she compared Barack Obama's former security adviser Valerie Jarrett to "Planet of the Apes".

"I go away back with Rosie and that's not the Rosie I know", Tim said. Oscar-winning actress and comedian Monique Hicks, better known as Mo'Nique, last week declared that she would stand by her "sister in comedy" and called on the public to forgive the former TV mom. But he added that it was a "financial decision on ABC's part". Casting for the character has not been announced yet, but the writers plan to introduce the character early in Season 7.

Newman said ABC canceled Last Man Standing, despite its ratings success, because that network wanted to program Friday nights with programming it produces; Last Man Standing is Fox-produced.

"I don't think we're going to specifically comment on Trump".

Allen said at the time that his personal politics - he attended Trump's inauguration - might have played a role, and on Thursday he said if there was a political motivation the network certainly wouldn't admit it. Allen added with regards to the difficulties comedians face at the moment: "It's a odd, awful time, and I don't think we're all made of glass".

Allen continued, "I don't know that it's going to be that, I think he's going to be more of a centrist".

Be sure to subscribe - This is going to be a big day for Last Man Standing fans, and CarterMatt is going to have a video breaking down what we've learned. The comedian always asked that ABC give him a head's up over Last Man Standing's renewal status to account for his standup schedule. Oh, has it only been one year?

The comedy was canceled by ABC in May 2017, a move that drew criticism from Allen and prompted fans to create petitions for its return.

At the time, ABC's cancelation of Last Man Standing was surprising but not completely exceptionally so. If it wanted to take some sitcom gambles, it had room.

The show will premiere on Fox on September 28.
