Apple removes conspiracy theory personality Alex Jones from iTunes over hate speech

Apple removes conspiracy theory personality Alex Jones from iTunes over hate speech

Last week, Facebook removed four videos on four of Jones' pages for violating its hate speech and bullying policies, according to a statement put out by the media platform.

The banning of the pages follows a similar move by Apple, which removed InfoWars and Alex Jones' news shows from all its podcasting platforms, also citing hate speech. Jones, who is the administrator of the pages, was placed on a 30-day block, Facebook said.

Rather, today's bans were due to violations of its community standards policies and its "strike system."For people, including Page admins, the effects of a strike vary depending on the severity of the violation and a person's history on Facebook", it wrote".

Jones is known for falsely claiming the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School was staged by actors.

Jones did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent to Infowars.

Now Playing: Watch this: Facebook shuts down another misinformation campaign using. "Podcasts that violate these guidelines are removed from our directory making them no longer searchable or available for download or streaming".

"If they don't appeal or their appeal fails, we remove the page", it said. "We believe in representing a wide range of views, so long as people are respectful to those with differing opinions", an Apple spokesperson said in a statement to TechCrunch.

The pages include one for Jones' flagship radio show InfoWars as well as his fan page.

Spotify on Monday confirmed it has removed all episodes of The Alex Jones Show, after taking down some selected episodes last week. The shooting killed 26 children and adults at the elementary school in CT.

In addition, last month both YouTube and Facebook penalised the alt-right agitator for violating their community-standards guidelines and deleted four videos he posted to the services.

Jones is now being sued in Texas by two Sandy Hook parents, seeking at least $1 million (£0.77 million), claiming that they have been the subject of harassment driven by his programs. The company's decision to pull the Infowars podcasts was first reported by BuzzFeed. The parents of one six-year-old Sandy Hook victim said they'd moved seven times after stalkers repeatedly found out where they were living and began harassing them.

'Spotify can confirm it has removed specific episodes of 'The Alex Jones Show´ podcast for violating our hate content policy, ' a spokesperson said late Sunday.

Spotify had also recently come under pressure for hosting Jones' podcasts.
