Conor McGregor to Face Nurmagomedov in Main Event at UFC 229

Conor McGregor to Face Nurmagomedov in Main Event at UFC 229

Nate Diaz was not happy when he saw the promo announcing that Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov will be facing off at UFC 229 on October 6 in Las Vegas.

This battle should be the most anticipated event of the year and will be part of UFC 229.

McGregor, speaking with TMZ, revealed a deal for his comeback fight was near to completion nearly two years since his last appearance in the octagon.

Nurmagomedov claimed the vacant belt by defeating Al Iaquinta - a late stand-in after the withdrawals of Tony Ferguson and Max Holloway - by unanimous decision, and his first defence will be against McGregor.

Well Diaz, the biggest rival of McGregor's career, was none too pleased regarding the lightweight title bout announcement.

Nurmagomedov, whose rise to prominence has been more of a slow burner in comparison to McGregor, was touted as an opponent when his foe first became lightweight champion.

"And obviously for Conor, coming back from a two-year layoff, in my opinion - and it's insane to say this because of how popular he is around the world - but he's one of the most underrated fighters in the UFC". Last month he was sentenced to five days of community service in the U.S. after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct. "For Khabib, who is undefeated and who is looked at as one of the best fighters in the world, beating Conor is massive for him", White said.

McGregor himself has said recently that he would prefer to fight in Madison Square Gardens again, but conceded that he believed his next fight would be in Las Vegas. They're bad mouthing me, saying I turned down fights.

However, in a presser line up that included the returning Nate Diaz and widely regarded number one contender Dustin Poirier, Conor and Khabib were conspicuously absent.

The bout, which will take place at UFC 229, is already being talked about as one of the fights of the year and promotional video for the fight has broken the internet in predictable style.

Israel Adesanya didn't seem phased by Brunson's attempt of body shaming, and the up-and-comer has impressed UFC fans with his last three fights, which brought him victories over Rob Wilkinson, Marvin Vettori, and Brad Tavares.
