Manchester City beat Chelsea 2-0 to claim Community Shield

Manchester City beat Chelsea 2-0 to claim Community Shield

The Italian admitted that Chelsea must improve after their humbling defeat to Pep Guardiola's men at the Wembley.

Aguero struck either side of half-time in a win that was far more comprehensive than the 2-0 scoreline suggests, sealing a fifth Community Shield for Premier League champions City as a Chelsea side lacking key players and preparation toiled. Sarri still wants new faces but they are in a race against time, with the window shutting on Thursday. Callum Hudson-Odoi looked most risky for Chelsea, but the Blues missed N'Golo Kante in midfield and struggled to create opportunities in the final third of the pitch. Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Benjamin Mendy started for City, for whom Bernardo Silva was bright. "Some players need to be hugged and be close to them for their best performance".

That desire was matched by his team, who looked sharp, dominant and eager to assert themselves once again on English football as they rained 18 shots at the Chelsea goal. City finished 30 points ahead of Chelsea.

Manchester City celebrate winning the community shield with the trophy. 'We would like to find maybe one more because we don't have two specific players to substitute Fernandinho. It might have been a different story had Kante been available, but Bernardo tore Chelsea to shreds.

The teenager laid off to Aguero as soon as David Luiz made a meek attempt at a challenge, with the striker sending a low effort past former City team-mate Willy Caballero. Subs: Willian 5, Drinkwater 5, Abraham 5, Moses.

In truth Foden and his team mates were helped in their task by Chelsea's defence, which looked all at sea against City's interchanging attackers. Aguero scores - The opener goes the way of the Premier League champions.

Left foot, right foot, it did not seem to matter for the Argentina ace as he took his tally at the national stadium to five - another City club record - and scooped the man-of-the-match prize.

Caballero made a smart save to deny Aguero a hat trick, with another change following as the excellent Foden was replaced by Brahim Diaz, with Victor Moses replacing Pedro for Chelsea as the game entered its last 10 minutes. The likes of Daniele Rugani (h/t Mirror) and Wilfried Zaha (h/t Daily Mail) have been linked with the club in recent weeks and it will be interesting to see which player the Blues end up signing.

Alvaro Morata - 4 - Offered very little and failed to make the ball stick. Big, big chance for Aguero!

Manchester City, on the other hand, are playing the Community Shield for the first time since 2014, when they were beaten 3-0 by Arsenal.

Guardiola's team wrapped up their pre-season preparations by sweeping aside Chelsea in the prestigious friendly at Wembley yesterday.
