Acting President, Osinbajo sacks DG of DSS over invasion of NASS

Acting President, Osinbajo sacks DG of DSS over invasion of NASS

Saraki was also expected to meet with Mahmoud Yakubu, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Armed men wearing the black uniform of the Department of State Security (DSS) stood at the gates of the building in the capital Abuja and were later joined by police officers, witnesses said.

The acting President also ordered the most senior officer in the department to take over from Daura.

AgP Yemi Osinbajo has directed the termination of the appointment of the DG of the DSS, Mr. Lawal Musa Daura.

The statement gave no reason for Daura's dismissal.

He had earlier met with the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, where he (Osinbajo) terminated the appointment of the DSS boss, Lawal Musa Daura.

Daura is however in a closed-door meeting with the Acting President, now holding at the presidential villa in Abuja.

Operatives of the DSS had in the early hours of Tuesday blocked the entrance to the National Assembly, preventing senators, members of the House of Representatives and staff from entering the premises.

Osinbajo condemned the unauthorized standoff at the National Assembly complex, describing it as "a gross violation of a constitutional order, rule of law and non-acceptable notions of law and order".
