Becca Kufrin defends controversial 'Bachelorette' victor: 'He didn't mean it'

Becca Kufrin defends controversial 'Bachelorette' victor: 'He didn't mean it'

Becca arguably deserved a happy ending more than anyone else in this franchise after Arie Luyendyk Jr. proposed marriage to her on The Bachelor's Season 22 finale only to dump her weeks later on-camera in order to reconcile with his runner-up, Lauren Burnham, whom he's now engaged to.

Garrett Yrigoyen may have won Becca Kufrin's heart on "The Bachelorette", but a scandal that broke out while the show was airing had him seriously anxious he'd lose it.

Becca also calledThe Bachelorette finale "intense", telling ET that viewers will experience a wide range of emotions - from sadness to laughter - on Monday night. It sounded like a softball question, but really, he was teeing up a rather uncomfortable moment.

Becca and Garrett both shared on the After the Final Rose special that their hometown date is where things really solidified for them.

"The Bachelorette" victor Garrett Yrigoyen addressed his Instagram controversy during the season finale.

This became quite the controversy online, and almost overshadowed the actual show. But the Instagram brouhaha also had the effect of essentially spoiling the season: The amount of immediate blowback from those involved with the show, including a full interview with Becca on the topic and a carefully worded apology from Garrett, suggested he was the season's victor. Garrett has since apologized, and in his and Becca's first public appearance as a couple, Becca took the opportunity to address the controversy.

"Some stuff came out about my social media and I didn't realize the affect behind a double-tap or a like on Instagram, so I put out an apology". "I didn't mean to offend anyone". He says that he didn't mean to offend anyone and didn't want to hurt Becca, but doesn't clarify whether or not he believed the content in the posts that he liked online. "I was confused and angry and all the emotions you go through a heartbreak with", she said to "People".

But according to Becca, all of the highs and lows of her time on the show were worth it.

"The Instagram situation, I don't condone that", Becca said. I knew that you'd be there and you'd be a partner to me - and a teammate. "We are moving in together".

Garrett proposes to Becca in the season finale of "The Bachelorette". Garrett admitted it crossed his mind. We've all made mistakes and done things that aren't flawless.

"It was tough because it wasn't just affecting me, but it was affecting her", Garrett said.

Harrison empathized, saying that because it happened during the season, Garrett couldn't defend himself from the people "attacking" him.

Becca said that while the scandal was "a hurdle", the thought of leaving him "never crossed my mind". Again, I say: Ouch. "I've been holding back because I wanted to be 1000 percent certain".

People shares some tidbits from Becca Kufrin and Garrett Yrigoyen about the state of their relationship. "And we're just going to continue that".

"He went through the entire season being open and transparent", Becca concluded.
