COWBOY NINJA VIKING Removed From Universal's Release Schedule

COWBOY NINJA VIKING Removed From Universal's Release Schedule

It's been reported by Collider that "Cowboy Ninja Viking" - which was set to be Michelle MacLaren's feature-length directorial debut - has been put on hold indefinitely and removed from Universal's release schedule. That's pretty shocking for a film that was going to go into production next month.

The film, nonetheless, remains in active development. Maybe the movie wasn't where they wanted it to be or maybe they actually wanted to get it right since they're hoping for a franchise hit. Pratt is playing a formidable agent with the fighting skills and personalities of a cowboy, a ninja, and a viking, who is sent to find and stop a group of rogue Triplets. Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (Deadpool) wrote the first draft of the script, and then Craig Mazin (The Hangover Part II), Ryan Engle (Rampage), and Dan Mazeau (Wrath of the Titans) stepped in to do a rewrite. He would've been joined by Priyanka Chopra, who had been in talks to play the female lead.

Priyanka signed the film after walking out of Ali Abbas Zafar's Bharat, 10 days before her portion of the shoot was to begin. Pratt will produce with Guymon Casady, Ben Forkner, Michael De Luca, Mark Gordon and Sara Scott. The next Guardians sequel was all set to shoot in early 2019, but Marvel has yet to make a formal announcement about the movie and how it will move forward since Gunn got the axe. Perhaps things behind the scenes of Cowboy Ninja Viking have just been far more complicated than any of us laymen ever realized.

"Initially Riley [Rossmo] wanted to do something with a Dystopian near-future setting, "Lieberman said of writing the Cowboy Ninja Viking comics".
