Kenny Stills and 2 other Dolphins protest during national anthem

The NFL players are at it again - taking a knee when they should be standing proudly for the National Anthem.

There were no apparent demonstrations by the Buccaneers.

The president's latest broadside against NFL players who kneel during the national anthem came in a tweet Friday morning in response to Thursday night's games.

After a 2017 season in which the NFL struggled with the split national reaction to players using the anthem as a time for social statements, with President Donald Trump weighing in heavily on the topic, the league instituted a new policy banning on-field anthem protests. The Dolphins issued a statement before training camp saying all options regarding the team's policy remain open.

The NFL says it's anthem policy is on hold while it holds discussions with the NFL Players Association. Albert Wilson @iThinkIsee12 joined him in protest.

"NFL free agent Colin Kaepernick first began kneeling during the anthem in 2016 to protest racial injustice and police brutality, and players across the league followed in his footsteps".

Jefferson, Jackson and Brown were among the Seahawks players who sat during the anthem last season.

". [A] handful of pardons will not address the sort of systemic injustice that National Football League players have been protesting", the letter stated.

"As a man, I got certain beliefs", said Smith, who wore "Salute the Service" cleats. I don't know if.to my knowledge, there's nothing out there right now on what the players can do.

"This is not going to become a distraction in Jacksonville, this is not going to be a distraction for this team". I thought I was going to be by myself out there, and today I had an angel with me with Albert being out there. "And I understand that. I think part of the problem is that when you continue the rhetoric that this is controversial or this is somehow a negative thing, people treat it as such", he said.

Trump once warned players to "Stand proudly" for the National Anthem, or "be suspended Without Pay!"

The rule would have fined teams whose players protested during the anthem, but allowed the teams the choice to wait in the locker room or tunnel while the anthem was performed.

"But we've seen in other leagues when they've made a decision to amplify the voices of their players to also emphasize the importance of the issues that we're raising, and change the narrative away from the anthem, that not only is it more acceptable, the fan base gets educated on what we're talking about, and we can actually make some movement".
