Henry Cavill Will No Longer Be DC Universe's Superman

Henry Cavill Will No Longer Be DC Universe's Superman

After today's torrent of news and rumors regarding Henry Cavill leaving the role of Superman and DC Comics movies behind, the Man of Steel himself has finally responded.

The move has not been confirmed by Cavill or the film studio, but THR reports contract negotiations between Cavill and Warner Bros. were unsuccessful. It was released after a Hollywood Reporter article said Cavill's tenure as the Man of Steel appeared to be ending.

Patty Jenkins's hit is helping pave a way forward for Warner Bros.'s superheroes; her sequel "Wonder Woman 1984" is due out next year.

Regardless, a source who spoke with the publication claimed that Superman was "a lot like James Bond", because, after a while, there is a need for a change in actors. "There's a recognition that some parts of the previous movies didn't work", says the studio insider.

Representatives for Cavill did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice followed suit, with Snyder and the studio seemingly deciding that the best thing they could do with Superman in what was, after all, only his second movie, was to kill him off. It's a possible big shakeup in the DC cinematic universe. Randolph below basically says the article was intentionally posted in the early morning so Dany Garcia would wake up and feel what it's like to have a world without Henry Cavill as Superman. The studio was apparently not looking to make a solo Superman film in the immediate future - instead looking towards a Supergirl origin story. The actor last week revealed that he had been cast as the main character, Geralt of Rivia, in Netflix's upcoming adaptation of the Witcher novels.

Actors Jason Momoa, from left, Ezra Miller, Gal Gadot, Ben Affleck, Ray Fisher and Henry Cavill pose for a selfie photograph at a photo call to promote the film "Justice League", in London, Saturday, Nov. 3, 2017.
