Missy Elliott performs with her "funky white sister" on "Ellen"

Missy Elliott performs with her

Over the summer, Missy Elliott shared a clip of Mary Halsey, a woman the rapper dubbed her "funky white sister", performing "Work It" at what looks like a barbecue in a park.

"The song had come out in 2002 and it was really popular", she said. Just before that, Halsey explained that her "Work It" cover has been a work in progress for 15 years, and has become something of her specialty over the course of that time ever since she first performed the song in a contest in 2003.

"First I want to thank Ellen for just being wonderful she will always be blessed because of her HUGE Heart!,' Missy said on Instagram following the show".

"It became my go-to song, everyone wants to hear it!" she revealed.

"It was a shock, I never expected this", said Halsey about going viral and getting a response from Missy for the original video.

Sitting down for a chat, an overwhelmed Mary admitted: 'I can hardly just sit here, you've blown me away. She freaked out, but quickly regained her composure and they finished the song together before embracing. "I thought it was the most fantastic thing". Upon finishing, the two, along with host Ellen DeGeneres, warmly hugged it out. When I listen and she know all the words but the sound effects, she made the elephant noise and all of that...

Later, Halsey got a gift from the Ellen show: a rhinestone-encrusted jacket that read "Missy's funky white sister" on the back.

We'll keep you posted on all the latest viral, uplifting videos shown on Ellen.
