OnePlus has officially given up on the headphone jack

OnePlus has officially given up on the headphone jack

Pei pointed out that removing the headphone jack component from the phone meant they were able to "put more new technology into the product".

So, Pei isn't saying the decision is courageous, but at least he's got some numbers to help back up the company's plan to ditch the headphone jack. We're not doing it for the sake of doing it and because everyone else is.

"We found 59 per cent of our community already owned wireless headphones earlier this year - and that was before we launched our Bullets Wireless headphones".

Even though OnePlus is getting rid of the feature that it so proudly advertised in its previous flagships, the company is trying to make up for the loss in more than one way.

OnePlus has shared that it will introduce an updated USB Type-C variant of its existing OnePlus Bullets V2 earphones. The company also favours Type-C over 3.5mm jack as there is minimal loss of quality in the former option.

If that wasn't enough of a confirmation, another image of what appears to be the official box cover of the phone showcases the front schematics of the phone, complete with the words "This is for you".

Naturally OnePlus loyals with their trusty 3.5mm-ended headphones won't be overjoyed at the news, however they may find comfort in the performance upgrades that ditching the jack allegedly allows.

He's partly not anxious because he said that removing the headphone jack has allowed them to include a bigger battery that will be "substantial enough for users to realize".

All of these features are said to be packed into the OnePlus 6T for $569 (£440), however this price point, like the other unverified rumours throughout this article, should be taken with a pinch of salt. The coolest feature about that screen, though, is that it contains a "light-sensitive fingerprint sensor under the display", which Samsung and Apple have both failed to deliver (while OnePlus affiliate Vivo has). Referring to the "new technology", we already know that the company is planning to add an in-display fingerprint scanner in the upcoming device.

But there's no denying that the 3.5mm headphone jack will be missed dearly.
