Putin Claims Poisoning Suspects Are Russian Civilians

Putin Claims Poisoning Suspects Are Russian Civilians

British prosecutors last week charged in absentia two men they identified as Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov for using a military grade nerve agent in Britain against Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia.

Earlier in September, UK prosecutors named two Russians they suspect of poisoning Sergei Skripal and his daughter in Salisbury this March. "They are just ordinary civilians", Putin told a session at an economic forum in Vladivostok, The Washington Post reported. I hope they will come out themselves and speak about themselves. This would be best for everyone. There is nothing special or criminal there. "We'll see in the nearest future".

Putin called on the two men it believes were involved in the attack to come forward, according to AP.

Skripal and his 33-year-old daughter Yulia were found unconscious on a bench in Salisbury, 90 miles (145 kilometers) southwest of London, on March 4. The Skripals were hospitalized for months but recovered.

Russian state media claimed Petrov was the former director of a lingerie firm near the Ukrainian city of Odessa who had been jailed for theft.

PUTIN insists the Russian men accused of the Salisbury novichok poisonings are "not criminals" and will reveal "everything themselves".

Britain believes that Petrov and Boshirov - which may not be the two men's real names - are now in Russian Federation.

British officials demanded at a meeting with Russia's charge d'affaires that those responsible for the poisoning of the Skripals were brought to justice.

Speaking in the Commons, Mr Wallace criticised airport security for not being "as good at they might be", allowing the highly toxic nerve agent to be smuggled across Britain's borders. At the same time, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that Putin personally did not communicate with the suspects.

British officials said the suspects had escaped to Russian Federation and that the operation likely was authorized at the highest levels in Moscow, a conclusion that was backed by the USA and other allies.

Ms Sturgess, 44, died in July.

Britain also accused the two men of being officers from Russia's intelligence service.

It has further damaged already severely strained relations between Russian Federation and the West and has been a cause for solidarity at a time when Western officials accuse Moscow of seeking to cause rifts in relations between Western countries.
