China welcomes U.S. trade talks offer as new tariffs loom

China welcomes U.S. trade talks offer as new tariffs loom

A public comment period also ended last week for the $200 billion tariff list, which would hit various internet technology products and other electronics, printed circuit boards and consumer goods ranging from handbags to bicycles and furniture.

President Donald Trump said last week that new tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods could go into effect "very soon" and warned that an even bigger raft of measures is in the works.

So far, the USA has imposed a 25 per cent tariff on Chinese imports totalling US$50 billion (S$68.5 billion).

"We support President Trump's efforts to reset U.S".

More than 430 companies responded to the survey between August 29 and September 5, which Ken Jarrett, president of AmCham Shanghai, said had been conducted in part to provide AmCham with data for meetings with members of congress later this month.

Trump instructed aides on Thursday to proceed with tariffs on about $200 billion more in Chinese products despite his Treasury secretary's attempt to restart talks with Beijing to resolve the trade war, according to four people familiar with the matter.

"The U.S. administration runs the risk of a downward spiral of attack and counterattack, benefiting no one", Zarit said in statement.

This is a sideshow to draw attention to the fact that the United States of America is a trade bully and China is looking for world economy support because they know most countries don't like the game Trump is playing. -China trade relations, address long-standing inequities and level the playing field.

Businesses received potentially good news on Wednesday after US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin proposed a fresh round of trade talks between the economic superpowers to avert a full-blown trade war.

A series of companies want President Trump to know that tariffs are hurting USA industries.

Meanwhile, almost a third of companies said they were considering delaying or canceling investments, underscoring the heightened uncertainty created by the trade tensions. It was unclear whether any US-China talks would delay the duties. More than half of United States firms are already feeling Beijing's wrath from non-tariff measures like heightened regulatory scrutiny, more inspections and slower customs clearance, according to the survey. Of the respondents to the survey from that sector, 80.5% said they had been hit by the American tariffs, and 75% by the Chinese retaliation-each side has levied tariffs on imports of vehicles and components from the other.

Chinese officials have called the targets "measured and restrained" and repeatedly declared the United States has forced Beijing to take actions that will ultimately hurt both countries.

This can only be right if there is no real trade war with China and I can't believe that President Trump can afford to create a real trade war because it would lead to a huge sell off on Wall Street.

However, Trump has repeatedly threatened to slap hefty tariffs on other Chinese imports.
